CoR’s Clinical Imaging Guidelines in Radiology Handbook was launched on 8 November 2017 at Institut Kanser Negara (IKN) Putrajaya in conjunction with the celebration of the International Day of Radiology (IDOR).
The theme for this year’s IDOR is “Emergency Radiology”. The emergency department is one of the places where overutilization of radiological examinations frequently takes place. Hence, the theme chosen this year is to raise awareness on the safe use of radiation in emergency cases among medical personnel with the hope of minimizing unwarranted radiation exposure to patients. All medical personnel require knowledge of radiation protection and adhere to safety precautions. Usage of radiation requires justification, optimization and dose limitation. Thus, the effort towards achieving the above resulted in the creation of a concise “Clinical Imaging Guidelines in Radiology” handbook. College of Radiology together with the other clinical counterparts have reviewed international practice guidelines and have taken the “adopt and adapt” approach from the IRefer by the Royal College of Radiologists UK with their kind permission. These guidelines will be used by all clinicians as guidance in making appropriate decisions before requesting for radiological investigations for optimal patient care.
